IB PYP Programme
Etonhouse Malaysia is proud to be authorized for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP). We have chosen the IB for its commitment to high-quality, engaging, international education, a commitment that matches our own.
The PYP is designed to meet the needs of children ages 3 to 12, through a curriculum which connects students to the real world, and builds their conceptual understanding across all subject areas. Students learn English, Mandarin, Mathematics, Physical Education, Visual Arts, Music, Science and Social Studies.
The PYP seeks to develop each student’s conceptual understanding. Conceptual understanding is about looking at how things work, and why they are the way they are, rather than settling for superficial knowledge about names, dates and events. Conceptual understanding is important because it allows students to apply their skills and knowledge in new situations, to generate new ideas, and to find solutions to problems they’ve never encountered before. The PYP focuses on applying students’ skills and knowledge across all areas of learning. This is excellent preparation for future studies, and for students’ challenging future careers.
Inquiry is very important to the principles of the PYP. In order to assist children in acquiring new skills and knowledge, teachers design opportunities for students to inquire, to look deeply into areas of interest and to discover important ideas for themselves. Rather than delivering knowledge directly to children, the focus is on teaching students how to learn on their own. This important skill has uses for the students’ entire life, in school and beyond. In today’s quickly-changing world, students must develop the ability to learn, unlearn and relearn. EHM, through the PYP, aims to provide these skills.
EtonHouse's Programme of Inquiry is a working document refined and reviewed annually. This working document is used to design meaningful learning experiences to promote student action and advocacy. Please see the EHM Programme of Inquiry 2024-2025.
